Re: Status of NCC-14352

Sir:

1) Main Bridge
 a) Micro-IDF modules have been installed at the forward workstations, both port and starboard, as well as navigation, helm and the first officer's positions.  These can be copied and located at the remaining bridge positions.  I put out a call for assistance to Bunin, Aderdeen and Spoonhammer but none responded.
 b) Audio feedback on command use at the LCARS terminals has not been accomplished.  The display permissions seem to be set incorrectly.  I will need your involvement to diagnose this error and complete the audio feedback you requested.
 c) Connectivity to the forward photon cannon is completed, but not installed.  The weapons system seems to have a delay which is being checked with a LV1 diagnostic.  ETC 2 days.
 d) Forward viewscreen 4-segment sensor loop has been installed and calibrated.

2) Engineering
 a) The warp engines are online; simulations to warp 8 have been completed and the M/ARC passes all tests.
 b) The command console in engineering is connected to the ODN and is running the basic engine control software.
 c) The command console is also displaying accurately the sensor network telemetry in real time.  This has helped diagnose problems we thought were engine based.

3) Medical
 a) Micro-IDF modules have been installed in all biobeds and tested.

4) Structural
 a) Door systems were completed late, but delivered several days ago.  They are a marked improvement over the former doors, taking up less space and energy.  These should be installed and tested to see if they work properly.

5) Transporter
 a) No assigned tasks
 b) News has reached this office that a new transporter - dubbed "the Warp" is now available.  We have received the preliminary specs, and it is quite impressive.  With your permission, we would like to meet with you and discuss possible implementations of this technology in this ship.

I am requested to speak to a group of engineers studying the new computer interface we plan to install.  Of significant interest is why Starfleet R&D continues to pick characteristicaly feminine voices for all crew messaging.  I will be lecturing on the similarities between a female and a ship.

I should be returning to my post in 2-3 days.  If you have additional tasks you wish to assign, I will review the comm upon my return.

Female voices have been used for computer voices in the Terran military  for as nearly long as they have had talking computers.  The higher pitched tones are easier to hear over low pitched noises common in battlefield applications.

It should be noted that Klingons rarely have talking computers, when Klingon computers are to notify their operators, they only use beeps and tones, never vocalizations.  These whistles and tones, like those on Starfleet ships are also higher pitched than typical vocalizations.  Discussion of why Klingon computers seldom if ever speak are I'm sure another topic.
